History

AREA IX Formed in 1997 by Tom Labach of ELCO as Chairperson.  Area IX started with 2 Sectional Tournaments and a Regional tournament..  The original colors  for Area IX were Teal and Purple.  The Colors Changed to Black and Red in 1998.


In 2002, Ron Kane and Dr. Walter Peppelman became the chairpersons  and the Area IX tournament was moved to Central Dauphin HS.  Ron and Walt also changed from a 2 sectional qualifiers to 4 Sectional Qualifiers with the top 4 place finishers advancing to the Area IX Regional Tournament


At the Conclusion of the 2005  State Tournament, Ron and Walt retired and moved on to higher levels of competition.  From 2006 to 2009, Area IX chair resided with Barry Barrick and Doug Corl as the assistant chair.  Barry and Doug had done and outstanding job in coordinating and setting up  the AREA IX region, bringing hundreds of young men and women to the sectional qualifiers and providing top notch facilities for competition.  


Today, Barry Barrick is Chairman and Buck Nye is Co-Chairman


Area IX consists of the following Counties: Adams, Berks (Except Boyertown SD), Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, Schuykill, and York
